Monticello Motor Club is making a bid to hold the United States Grand Prix.

According to Autoweek the club’s 6.59km (4.1 mile) track has already been inspected by F1 circuit designer Hermann Tilke. id="more-33170">

A letter from the Monticello Motor Club president Ari Strauss reads:

A few months ago, [MMC chairman] Bill McMichael and I met with Bernie Ecclestone, President/CEO of Formula One Management (FOM), and discussed the terms for an exclusive 10-year United States Grand Prix to be hosted at MMC.

Shortly thereafter, Hermann Tilke, the chief engineer and circuit designer for F1, spent time at MMC and confirmed that our track and surrounding properties, with some expansion and minor track modifications, is an excellent location for a Grand Prix.

Since receiving a letter of understanding from FOM confirming their hope to bring the U.S. Grand Prix to Monticello, Bill and I have continued to secure the backing and support of local, state, and federal politicians and organizations.

Earlier this year Ecclestone said he didn’t intend to take the United States Grand Prix back to Indianapolis because “It’s all the wrong crowd and the wrong people.” Is a private motor club a better fit with his view of where F1 should be racing?

This line from the letter seems to suggest fans wishing to attend the race may have to become members of the club:

If F1 comes to Monticello, our intent is to preserve MMC as, first and foremost, a private country club. Obviously, demand will accelerate as well as the initiation fee for new members.

Or they might just be hoping the increased publicity for their club gains them new members.

Ecclestone has been chasing a Grand Prix in New York for decades but Monticello would not satisfy his desire to have a race within sight of the Manhattan skyline – a dream the aborted Jersey City project would have fulfilled.

• New York F1 track plans revealed – Jersey City bids for 2012 night race
• Ecclestone still chasing New York dream

Another possible venue for a future United States grand prix has emerged.

After talks for a race in Jersey City reportedly collapsed, it is now suggested that Monticello Motor Club, about two hours from New York City, has been earmarked as a possible alternative.

Autoweek published a letter from the club’s president Ari Strauss to members revealing that the club – located in the Town of Thompson in Sullivan County – is in talks with F1 chief executive Bernie Ecclestone.

The letter also said Strauss met with Ecclestone a few months ago, and that F1 track designer Hermann Tilke has already visited the venue.

Strauss said Tilke “confirmed that our track and surrounding properties, with some expansion and minor track modifications, is an excellent location for a grand prix”.

He explained that he is working on securing the “backing and support of local, state, and federal politicians and organisations” and warned that “securing F1 is like winning the Olympics, competition is fierce, and this is not a done deal”.

Together they’re discovering that neither medicine nor relationships can be defined in black and white on “Grey’s Anatomy” Season 6. Real life only comes in shades of grey.

The shooter is Mr. Clark, the guy from earlier this season who blames Derek Shepherd for his wife’s death. The whole hospital is on lockdown.

I mean, okay, fine she let Derek stay alive, but we already knew that he wouldn’t die… God, I loved the episode and when I saw Meredith was pregnant I started to laugh out loud, but a minute later I realized Shonda wouldn’t let us have the McBaby, so I watched it with the thought that my first feeling wouldn’t last long…. And it didn’t. So thanks, thanks a lot for screwing this episode… Why take the baby? There was enough drama, I needed this one thing and she took it away, I needed a hope and now it’s taken away and we have to wait until October… There wasn’t much of MerDer in this season, but I tried to ignore it hoping, that in the season finale we would get something to hold on, but no…
I know it’s just a TV show but I’m actually crying. I needed this one thing to last, and it didn’t…

Ronnie James Dio: An Appreciation

As a teenage metal head I may have spent more time listening to Ronnie James Dio, who died today from cancer, than any other singer. This is partly because he was in so many darn bands—including Rainbow, Black Sabbath, and Dio—but mostly due to the fact that he was just a terrific frontman with an operatic control of his vocal instrument that few have ever matched. There are many people who only know the man from his fondness for flashing “the Devil’s horns” or his cameo in the 2006 Tenacious D movie The Pick of Destiny. However, to a certain section of the metal-loving fraternity, Ronnie James Dio really is a legend.

The singer first came to the attention of rock fans in the mid-’70s as the frontman of Rainbow, the band legendary guitarist Ritchie Blackmore formed after departing from Deep Purple. Blackmore would gain a reputation as a tough, dictatorial, boss who tended to re-shuffle the Rainbow lineup with each record. But he clearly recognized the value of Dio’s singing and songwriting skills as the vocalist would ultimately grace four Rainbow albums—1975′s Ritchie Blackmore’s Rainbow, 1976′s Rising, 1977′s On Stage, and 1978′s Long Live Rock ‘n’ Roll—before he finally departed. Notable Dio highlights from his days with Rainbow include “Man on the Silver Mountain” and “Kill the King,” a hammering showcase for his full-throated howl.

Dio next joined Black Sabbath for two albums: 1980′s Heaven and Hell and the following year’s Mob Rules. Over time it has become accepted rock wisdom that the only Sabbbath worth listening to is one that features a certain John Michael “Ozzy” Osbourne on vocals. That’s just plain wrong. The two Dio-fronted collections are terrific slabs of rock mayhem that in no way disgrace the Sabs’ history.

In 1982, he left the band and formed Dio with Sabbath drummer Vinnie Appice. The group’s debut album, Holy Diver, once again showed Dio on top form and spawned the swaggering single of the same name. Dio-the-band continued to release albums over the next decade. Meanwhile, Dio-the-singer periodically returned to the Sabbath fold. In recent years, the Mob Rules-era lineup—Dio, Appice, guitarist Tony Iommi, and bassist Geezer Butler—toured extensively under the name “Heaven & Hell” and last year released an album called The Devil You Know. If the latter collection was not the finest work of anyone involved, it did very much show that the singer still possessed one of rock’s great voices.

His first band was Elf in the 60′s.
He is truly now the man on the silver mountain! Prayers go out to his family, friends and fans. What a huge loss to the music world.

Good morning! It is chilly here again today….27 for my walk this morning. But I feel very awake now! And I am determined to paint. I got called away yesterday. My daughter who lives in Twin Falls called and said she was in Boise with her twins on a field trip and could I possibly meet up with them. How can you say no to that? So I met them at the zoo. The tigers there are very close and just a little scary….especially if you know their history. When they first acquired the tigers they were giving a tour to a few of the zoo donors and one of the tigers somehow got through the barrier and bit a lady's head. Not off or anything. I suppose he just wanted to say hi. She later sued the city. I would say she had some cause. Anyway it makes the exhibit that much more exciting! And brings to mind William Blake's wonderful poem. One of my favorites! I love the images of fire and strength and ….terror I guess. Tigers are one of those animals that are magnificent and terrible at the same time. I read a book about the Bengalese area where the tiger reserve is. There are still people killed every year by tigers there!
After the zoo and lunch we went to the state capitol building for a tour. It has just undergone a two year rennovation, so it was very interesting. For such a small town Boise has a lot going for it. I missed part of the tour though because I had to go feed the parking meter. They really could use some help with parking. But I had to go into this little French Pattiesserie to get change and just had to buy something too:) They have really wonderful croissants and chocolate mousse. I got both:) There goes the diet! Ah well. Some things are worth ruining a diet over.
